Dr. Øye graduated from the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH) in 1988 with the degree «sivilingeniør» in Mechanical Engineering. He carried out the diploma thesis for the «sivilingeniør» degree at the Aerodynamisches Institut, RWTH Aachen, Germany, by a scholarship awarded him by Deminex (Norge) A/S.
That autumn he began his graduate studies in Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University, Ca. USA, where he received his M.Sc. degree in June 1989.
Later that year Øye joined CFD norway as and embarked upon doctoral studies in computational fluid dynamics at the Department of Mechanics, Thermo- and Fluid Dynamics, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). His supervising professor was Prof., Dr.techn. Helge Nørstrud. In December 1996 Dr. Øye successfully defended his doctoral thesis, entitled On the Aerothermodynamic Effects of Space Vehicles.
At CFD norway as Dr. Øye carried through projects within the German Hypersonics Programme, the TRP and FESTIP programs of the European Space Agency (ESA), EUREKA and BRITE/EURAM. At the domestic scene he was envolved in the aerodynamics of ski jumpers and the design of blades for more efficient wind turbines.
Dr. Øye’s current research activities focus on turbulence modelling
for compressible flows, chemically reacting flows including combustion, numerical
methods for low-speed flows, methods for unsteady flows including dynamic
grids, and on the dynamic stability of projectiles.
